Synchresis: Kinetic Closed Captioning Experiment

Synchresis provides an outline of what the future of digital closed captioning could look like.

Synchresis captions are animated, they remain in perfect time with the film’s audio track, they are sensitive to the audio properties as well as meaning of film sounds, and they present typographic solutions that are sensitive to the film’s feeling and form as well as the director’s vision.

The Synchresis project includes a sample reel featuring three popular films using the Synchresis captioning model; a book entailing the schedule, rules and algorithms necessary to actualize Synchresis captions; and a culminating research report.
